Playstation 3 and Wii facts on E-bay
It was a well known fact that the sale of PS3's and Nintendo Wii's on E-bay would be pretty crazy. Gamasutra was kind enough to track the buying frenzy on E-bay for the first week/5-days that PS3 and Wii were released.
14,675 Playstation 3 units were sold between Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 for an average price of $1,186.39.
26,708 Nintendo Wii's were sold between Nov. 19 and Nov. 24 for an average price of $412.53.
However, the Playstation 3's average price bumps up to $1,369.90 if one were to add the Pre-sale tickets that were sold before the actual release. These auctions started on Oct. 24, and accounted for 13,558 mroe sales, for a total of 28,233 PS3 systems E-bayed, easily dominating the the Nintendo Wii in not only numbers sold, but price.
PS3 - The Wait is Over Commercial
This is another PS3 commercial that came out right around the launch date I believe. It is not one of the previous white room commercials, and actually does get your interest, as well as makes sense. Watch it below.
Wii and PS3 get Smashed!
Well I am not too sure what the purpose of these videos are, but apparently some people get there jollies waiting days in line to score one of the first PS3's or Wii's, only to walk out of the store and take a SLEDGEHAMMER to them for everyone to see. Yes, it is somewhat entertaining to see people's reactions, but that is $650 down the drain for the PS3, and over $300 for the Wii. Some people will just do anything to get attention I suppose.
Another great Homemade PS3 Commercial
This is yet another entertaining homemade PS3 commercial. So far PS3's commercials have focused on it's cell processor, the Six Axis Controller, and a ummm... creepy baby, among other things. If you ask me, this fan's commercial focuses on the swing of power and market share that the PS3 will take from Nintendo and Microsoft with the release of the Playstation 3. The power is represented by the pot of food on the stove, by taking the pot, aka Microsoft and Nintendo out back to feed to the dog, aka PS3, this is representing how PS3 will "eat up" the competition and take utter control of the gaming market.
Oh yeah, and the kid who magically gains a happy mustache represents TOTAL AWESOMENESS!
Game on.
As release date nears for the ever anticipated Playstation 3, hardcore gamers all over the United States are already lining up in front of their local Walmart's, Bestbuy's, and Circuit City's to secure there very own shiny new PS3. Then there are also the lucky few of us who secured and were recently guaranteed their PS3 pre-orders available for pickup from EB Games or Gamestop on the morning of November 17th. (Thankfully, I am one of those lucky few).
So what makes these "gamers" stand in line for hours, and even days just to have a CHANCE for the glorious PS3? Is it to be the first kid on their block to have one? Or is it to experience what will be the premiere Next-Gen console on the market? Maybe they just read all of the hype leading up to the release, and based on no actual facts, decided that they better get one of these Next-Gen console thingies? But hopefully, what actually leads these people to stand patiently in line for the Playstation 3 is a genuine love and excitement for gaming, a thirst for racing, fighting, playing, or living your fantasy through the most advanced platform yet known to the gaming world.
The fact however is that we all game for our own reasons. For that, I salute all of those hoping to get a PS3 this coming November 17th. Tell us, are you one the lucky few?
What will your first game be? Your first conquest? Your frist triumph? Or more simpler perhaps, your first race, your first fight, or your first quest.
Best Buy PS3 Numbers Are Out
Apparently there is now some information on the number of PS3 systems that Best Buy will have in stock on release day. A blogger managed to find out some confirmed information for certain regions of the country, but has not posted on all regions. He did however post a way that you could find out for yourself how many the Best Buy's in your area may have in stock using a little Social Engineering.
With the data posted so far on his blog, it appears that Best Buy will be carrying about twice as many of the 60 GB model than the 20 GB. It looks as if this will be the more popular model, so it is most likely a smart move by Best Buy. It does not appear that Best Buy will be allowing any pre-sales for the PS3, so you are more than likely going to have to spend some long hours in line to get one.

Funny Homemade PS3 Commercial
Well I couldn't help but laugh at this homemade PS3 commercial (using an N64 no less). Complete with the white background, and with "stunning" special effects, this is truly an amazing commercial. Kudos to whoever took the time to make this, maybe Sony should hire them?
Adult Swim Holding PS3 Contest
The good people over at Cartoon Network and Adult Swim are holding a contest to not only win a PS3 but also appear on an episode of Robot Chicken. This is a great video promoting the contest. Anyone with some creative ability and a little bit of a twisted humor could have a pretty decent shot at this. Hope to see some funny submissions, as I think I will be keeping an eye on this.
Japanese PS3 launch Commercial
This is another PS3 commercial that was released in Japan to promote the release of the PS3 console there. Much like the PS3 commercials we have been seeing here in the US, this one does not make a whole lot of sense. My guess would be that the 3 gaps in the fork represent the 3 in PS3. But can it really be that simple? You be the judge.
PS3 Will Require Firmware Upgrade Out-of-box
Sony has reported that the Playstation 3 console will require a firmware upgrade right out of the box in order to access Sony's free online service dubbed Playstation Network.
According to Sony, the firmware upgrade will be available on November 17, the same day that the console will officially launch in the US. The firmware upgrade will be accessible from the console's main menu and will bump the firmware version from v1.0 to v1.1

The Latest PS3 Commercial
Sony's latest PS3 commercial focuses on it's unique Six Axis Controller. Unlike the creepy baby commercial, this one actually kind of makes sense. It is even actually kind of cool. See what you think!
Blu-Ray > HD-DVD
This is a pretty simple video that somebody put together to point out some very valid points about the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD debate. It seems a lot of people out think that Blu-Ray will not ever catch on and HD-DVD is where it's at. But maybe they haven't really done their own research, and are just jumped on the HD-DVD bandwagon because they are a Nintendo-nerd. Well watch the video for yourself, and see what you think.
Initial Consumer Reactions to PS3 Very Positive
BusinessWeek recently posted an associated press article about the very positive response thus far to the hotly anticipated Sony Playstation 3. Already, many consumers with PS3 pre-orders are asking upwards of $2000 on E-bay, and often times getting it, despite the fact that a pre-order does not 100% ensure that you will receive your PS3.
This just goes to show that despite having it's fair share of marketing blunders, Sony has been able to position itself to dominate the Holiday market, by making a great product, giving it a sleek look, and Next-Gen capabilities. The PS3 will also be amazingly quiet, and will offer a free online service. With all the great features PS3 has to offer, even with the $500-$600 price tag, Sony has made it hard to resist, despite the money and the effort it will take to acquire one.
It is easy to see that the PS3 will be huge when it is officially launched in the U.S., but we will get to see first hand just what kind of an impact it will have once it is released this coming Saturday in Japan. I would not be surprised to read some crazy stories of what people do to get one. Hopefully we will have one to post come Saturday or Sunday. With huge launches like this, hilarity usually will ensue.

Waiting for the Game?
Apparently this website, "Waiting for the Game" is trying to build up some hype about waiting in line for a PS3 on the release date. So they made this teaser video of some kid dressed as Cloud Strife that apparently has this "destiny" to wait in line for a yet to be specified amount of time. Kind of goofy if you ask me, but to each their own. Here is the teaser.
New PS3 Demo's
Here is a pretty sweet demo video showing off some of the PS3's power. The demo shows a city scene and how something so complex is rendered by the PS3. Fight Night 3 is also shown. The main thing emphasized is how the PS3 will bring the player into the situation of the game, so that they can feel almost as if they were IN that situation. Take a look!
Naughty Dog Preview
This upcoming PS3 title looks pretty damn sweet. The gameplay looks challenging and pretty fun. It looks almost like you might as well be playing an actual movie. These are the types of things that everyone is expecting fromt the PS3. Take a look.
Fox rushing first Blu-Ray release's for Nov. 14th
Hoping to ride the Playstation 3 momentum, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is rushing their release of "X-Men: The Last Stand" to Blu-ray Disc on Nov. 14. Coming just three days before Sony's next-gen video game console makes debut in the U.S.
Many executives from movie studios believe that PS3 will be the driving force that will push Blu-Ray past it's competing format of HD-DVD to replace today's common DVD format, as HDTV becomes more and more common in consumer households.
The demographics between 'X-Men' and PlayStation 3 are a near-perfect match," said Steve Feldstein, senior vp marketing communications for 20th Century Fox. "This is the biggest new release yet for Blu-ray, and we're working closely with retailers and others to ensure that when people are buying their PS3s, they're going to know they can get 'X-Men' to play on it."
"PlayStation is by far the dominant game platform, and this should put questions about format wars to rest."
Other Fox Blu-Ray Releases scheduled for Nov. 14th include "Behind Enemy Lines," "Fantastic Four," "Kingdom of Heaven," "Kiss of the Dragon," "The Omen," "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," "Speed" and "The Transporter."
